Sasquatch science

Bigfooters, people who search for evidence of the mythical creature Sasquatch, often use methods inspired by mainstream science, despite their claims being rejected by institutional science.

Researchers conducted over 160 interviews with Bigfooters for their 2026 book, Bigfooters and Scientific Inquiry: On the Borderlands of Legitimate Science.

The study found that Bigfooters are not anti-science but instead apply scientific principles like empiricism and methodology to their research.

Unlike citizen scientists, who work within established scientific frameworks, Bigfooters operate outside mainstream science, valuing individual experience and anecdotal evidence, similar to natural philosophers of past centuries.

For example, George Eberhart, a cryptozoologist and Bigfooter, stated that while Bigfooting is not part of mainstream science, it can still employ scientific methods to gather useful data.
