Résumé
Buganda kings' tombs
The Buganda royal tombs are located on Kasubi Hill in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and serve as the final resting place for four kings of the Buganda kingdom.
The Buganda kingdom is a centuries-old monarchy that remains central to the cultural and social life of the Baganda people, an ethnic group native to Uganda.
The tombs are constructed using vegetal materials, which are plant-based substances like wood and thatch, rather than modern building materials such as concrete or steel.
This traditional construction method reflects the cultural heritage of the Baganda but also makes the structures fragile and in constant need of maintenance.
In March 2010, a fire severely damaged much of the tomb complex, highlighting its vulnerability.
The tombs are not just burial sites but also hold deep spiritual and cultural significance for the Baganda people, embodying their values and traditions.
